Summary

Khalifa Kush, the brand run by rapper Wiz Khalifa, is coming to New York State. It has teamed up with Skyworld, an Indigenous-owned New York brand, and goes on sale in 36 stores across the state from October 31.

Khalifa Kush is the cannabis brand that rapper Wiz Khalifa started under his own name. On October 14 it announced its move into New York State, its 14th market in the United States.

Its partner there is Skyworld, an Indigenous-owned New York brand known for carefully grown indoor flower. Skyworld will grow and distribute the products within the state.

Sales start on October 31 with two strains, KK and Violet Sky, sold as flower and pre-rolls. Violet Sky is a cross of Khalifa Mints and GastroPop and is known for its floral aroma.

The products will be stocked in 36 stores: seven in New York City and 29 in Upstate New York and on Long Island. More strains and formats are planned.

Our view

When a celebrity brand moves into a new state, the choice of partner shapes how it is seen. Khalifa Kush chose a local, Indigenous-owned brand. Skyworld also makes a product with basketball player Carmelo Anthony, so stars from music and sport are gathering around the same local grower, which is an interesting turn.
